Lately i have been really really tired of the music scene. Besides the new radiohead album that came out on the first of this month, there has been nothing new and interesting to listen to. The music industry is going down the hole, worrying more about image than the actual music that is being produced. If the music business cared half as much about the music then about how they look, im almost positive we'd be having revolutionary musicians out there.

What spurred this whole thought process on is watching late night with conan o brien last night. I know Conan is super cool and hand picks all the musicians he has on his show but this one artist was just dreadful. Her name is Sia and she is from the UK. As most people know by now, recording studios are magical and can make anyone sound like the best singer, so im not talking about listening to a studio recording. She was singing live and was pretty much tone deaf. She had zero control over her voice and was just really plesant to listen to. Now why is she on a late night talk show and starting a US tour soon? because she is a woman who broke into the electro-pop scene and there is not many women who are into that kind of style of music. Whether she is good or not, its different. It seems like the popular style in music now is to 'be different' but since its so popular to do this, it is in fact not so different anymore. Its trendy to be different.

One of the reasons why i look up to Thom Yorke so much is because his voice is so consistent. Recorded, live, or on a crappy webcam feed on new years day, his voice always continues to sound the same. It takes a lot of talent to be that consistant all of the time. but this blog is about the music industry and not about Radiohead.

Seems like the record labels are just producing carbon copies of each others artists. Every singer out there has someone to compete with that is pretty much the same person.
an example is take Ciarra vs. Rhianna. Up until two days ago i thought they were the same person.

No one is going to make a historical impact on the music business if everyone is the same.
